Basel Zoo was opened in 1874 and has always been an attraction for interested people of all ages in Switzerland and neighboring countries. Every year, around 1 million visitors marvel at the more than 600 different animal species.

In addition to being a popular destination for excursions, Basel Zoo also plays an important role in the conservation of endangered animal species. By participating in international breeding programs for various animal species, an important contribution is made to safeguarding the population.
